Survey "Entrepreneurship in Tartu in 2010"

Tartu City Government and sociologists from University of Tartu have published a survey Tartu Ettevõtlusuuring 2010 (Entrepreneurship in Tartu in 2010) which indicates that entrepreneurs in Tartu are recovering well from the recession, are satisfied with the entrepreneurship environment in the city and are planning to widen their businesses.

The survey was held for the fifth time already to gain a proper overview of the local entrepreneurship environment, the changes that have occured, future plans of entrepreneurs and so on.

Sociologists held interviews with 250 entrepreneurs from different sized companies. "The economic environment has been through major changes since the last survey in 2006, we have experienced economic boom and a sudden recession. This has also affected the plans of our entrepreneurs," previous deputy mayor Karin Jaanson commented. "It is good to see that entrepreneurs are planning to widen their business activities in Tartu and are more happy with the possibilities for continuing education of their employees when compared to the last survey. Another positive result was that only one company out of one hundred is planning to cut back the number of its employees," Jaanson noted.

Entrepreneurs think continuously highly of the reputation of Tartu and the quality of life but the investment ability and therefore innovativeness indicators have gone down.
